Job Summary:
Join our team as a Solar Grazing Shepherd to manage and care for sheep grazing at solar facilities. This unique position involves overseeing the health and well-being of the flock while maintaining vegetation under solar panels. Ideal candidates are reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
• Monitor and care for a flock of sheep and guardian dogs, ensuring their health and safety.
• Rotate sheep grazing areas to maintain optimal vegetation levels.
• Inspect fencing, water systems, and shade structures to ensure proper functioning.
• Identify and address health concerns in sheep, including administering basic first aid.
• Collaborate with solar facility supervisors to meet vegetation management goals.
• Maintain accurate records of grazing activities, flock health, and equipment.
• Handle guardian dogs or other livestock as needed.
Qualifications:
• Experience working with livestock, particularly sheep (preferred).
• Basic knowledge of animal health and grazing management.
• Comfortable working outdoors in inclement weather.
• Working sites in remote locations for extended periods.
• Long walks through varying degrees of terrain and vegetation.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical labor.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Work Schedule:
• Flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Travel between grazing sites may be required.
Preferred Skills:
• Previous experience with livestock.
• Familiarity with electric fencing and livestock equipment such as corral systems.
• Basic veterinary skills.
